Teachers win math grants
Thursday, March 3, 2005

The Somerville Mathematics Fund, an affiliate of Dollars for Scholars, announces the winners of its 2005 Teacher Grants to encourage mathematics achievement in Somerville classrooms. The members of the board were pleased with the quality of the applications this year and with the exciting things that are happening in the Somerville classrooms.

The Mathematics Fund is able to support the following winning projects:

Catherine Cannan at Somerville High School for a data analysis project using TinkerPlots.

Eileen Kilty at the A. D. Healey School for a project creating mathematics learning centers for first-graders.

Celia Taylor at the A. D. Healey School to host a kindergarten-through-second-grade family mathematics night.

The Somerville Mathematics Fund was chartered in 2000 to celebrate and encourage achievement in mathematics in Somerville. In early April, the fund will be seeking applications from students who reside in Somerville for college mathematics scholarships. Copies of the scholarship application form is available at www.somervillemathematicsfund.org.
